Three Sculptors in the Garden

© Jenny Pope

This is a response from three local sculptors to the unique coastal location and history surrounding Cockenzie.

Jenny Pope is an artist based in Leith. She makes delicate porcelain pieces as well as large concrete forms. She is inspired by beach combing, collecting and responding to inescapable changes in our lives. Current work combines the structure of bones and rock formations with eroded surfaces.

Ettie Spencer is a sculptor who works mainly in the outdoors making generally large-scale often, temporary pieces. Using a variety of materials ranging from the industrial to things that grow, she is interested in exploring our relationship to both the natural and urban environments and how the two interact and affect our lives. Past projects are documented on her website

Richard Webb is a sculptor who makes robust outdoor works of clay and steel, often fired together. Mass, presence, and marks made by people in the past and present are themes that continue in his work.

Jonathan Wood will be performing live at the Sculpture opening at Cockenzie House. He is a musician who has been writing songs for 40 years. He performs songs which are both sensitive and hard-hitting, evoking aspects of our psychological, emotional and political lives, in a modal style rooted in blues, jazz and folk music.
