Because the earlier local history event was unfortunately postponed, Iris McMillan has jumped in and created a new event - “Crans, Creels and Tunes” — multimedia talk and exhitibition about the rich social and family history of the scottish fishing families and communities.1870 to 1930.

My name is Iris McMillan, my mother’s name was Jane Ritchie Thorburn, my Grandmother’s name was Crissie Watson and my Great Grandmother was Granny Jeannie Ritchie who hailed from Fisherrow and went wi’ the creel — this is my lineage back to the 1850’s. Dressed in my fishwife’s clothes, I am very proud to tell the story of the women and families left ashore as the men went to the fishing, as it was the women folk who were the glue that held the communities together, in good times and in bad.”
