This year we are remembering John Bellany CBE RA (1942–2013) who would have been 75 on 18th June. John was born in Port Seton and was one of Scotland’s most outstanding contemporary artists. His links to Port Seton remained strong throughout his life and in 2005 he was made the first Freeman of East Lothian.

The pupils of Preston Lodge High School have been inspired by John’s paintings to create their own tribute through paint and sculpture. We are delighted to display their work in Chalmers Church (venue 12) and also to include some of their wonderful artwork throughout the brochure.

We have a John Bellany trail which starts in ‘The Harbour Gallery’ Port Seton. As well as this we are holding a Painting Competition with the theme ‘Port Seton, Cockenzie and Prestonpans, the heritage, the people, the place’ with the winner receiving £100. We hope to make this an annual event. Port Seton library will be playing the DVD ‘John Bellany: Childhood by The Sea ‘produced by Preston Lodge High School’s Film Club.

The festival continues to be a diverse festival with artists, music, events & workshops throughout the villages of Port Seton, Cockenzie & Prestonpans. Wonderful arts & crafts adorn walls and rooms, and we hope you enjoy the variety of art work on display. There are numerous events, from the guided walk of Scotland’s first railway, the 1722 Waggonway, to an afternoon of songs, stories and drama from local musicians, storytellers, writers and poets in the Gothenburg in Prestonpans. Not to be missed, The Diaspora Tapestry will be on display in Prestonpans Community Centre.

We also have several workshops, from playing a ukulele, to painting a beehive. The Lighthouse Community Hub in Prestonpans once again plays host to a great selection of music throughout the festival week. Don’t miss North Sea Gas on Saturday 10th June. With something for everyone, you will find a warm welcome awaiting you at the 3 Harbours Arts Festival 2017. Enjoy!

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported and contributed to making the 3 Harbours Arts Festival the fantastic festival that it is. Each year we are delighted at how the festival has developed and grown with your support.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, who work extremely hard to ensure this great community festival continues. A special thank you to all the participating artists, musicians and performers, as well as all the local venues and houses that kindly open their doors for the festival.

Our thanks to the pupils of Preston Lodge High School for designing a large selection of wonderful paintings for this years brochure. Congratulations to Abbie Davidson, whose image adorns the front cover of the brochure.

We would also like to thank Rosy Naylor, our brochure and leaflet designer, and a special thank you to EAE marketing specialists, who continue to sponsor our leaflet, poster and brochure distribution. Thank You.”
